Looking for a way to support the awesome students in Chicago? Sign up to be a Book Buddy next spring! Join our mailing list now and you’ll be among the first to know about our program launch next spring.

Here’s how it works: when you sign up to be a Book Buddy, we’ll match you with a child, tell you a bit more about what she loves to read and connect you to her school. You’ll purchase new books that will be her very own—so that she can keep reading all summer long!

Sign up now and give Chicagoland students their very own books for the summer.

STOCK the shelves

Short on time this year? You can still support Chicagoland schools and students! Make a gift to the Stock the Shelves fund and help us fill up school libraries around the city. We’ll use your generous gifts to further support our partner schools and make sure that students have book to read all year long.

involve your business

We invite our corporate partners to engage their staff by sponsoring books for an entire classroom or school. Participating in Chicago Reads is a great team engagement tool—and a great way to give back. We encourage you to sign up and connect your staff with individual students’ requests.

Book buddy basics

Thank you for your interest in Chicago Reads! Here are a few more details to help you get started:

As we speak, students around Chicago are at school, learning from amazing teachers. But summer will be here before we know it—which means two months of days outside of the classroom. We can’t send every student home with a teacher of her own this summer—but we can try to give each child a book!

So here’s how it works:

  1. Students at our partner schools write to us and tell us what they love to read.

  2. You sign up to be a Chicago Reads Book Buddy right here on this website.

  3. The Sun-Times Charity Trust team matches you with a child and sends you her letter when you sign up to be a Book Buddy. Thanks in advance!

  4. As a Book Buddy, you agree to purchase $15-$20 worth of new books for your student and deliver those books to the partner school’s designated drop off location.

  5. You spread a love of reading and ensure that the fun (and learning) never stops!
